Exporting

When to use

Exporting in Workflowy lets you copy your content in multiple formats - including formatted text, Markdown, plain text, and OPML.

You can export a single bullet or your entire account from the bullet menu or Settings. It’s perfect for backups, printing, or moving your outline into other tools - just export, copy, and paste wherever you need it.

Export content

1. Hover over the item that contains the information you want to export
2. Open the bullet menu for that item
3. Click on “Export” in the bullet menu
4. Choose your preferred export option
5. Hit Win: CTRL + C, Mac: CMD + C on your keyboard
6. Paste the content where you want

Export everything

Please note that exporting everything could take some time depending on how much information you have in your account.

1. Open the settings panel from the menu bar
2. Click “Export all” in the menu
3. Choose your preferred export option
4. Hit Win: CTRL + C, Mac: CMD + C on your keyboard
5. Paste the content where you want

Print content

Depending on what version of Workflowy you're using, the system's print options will be shown. You can also simply use the keyboard shortcut Win: CTRL + P, Mac: CMD + P.

1. Open the settings panel from the menu bar
2. Click on “Print” in the menu

Works well with...

  • Text & Block Formats → Formatted text (like headings, quotes, and code blocks) exports cleanly into Markdown, OPML, or plain text - making your documents instantly usable in editors, blogs, or note apps.
  • Templates → Organize exports around reusable templates so recurring documents - like reports, outlines, or lesson plans - always follow a consistent structure.
  • Tags & Dates → Filter by tags or timeframes before exporting to focus only on relevant items - for instance, export #weekly tasks or !!this month notes for reviews and summaries.
