# One document

Workflowy is one document, not many. There are no separate pages to open or files to switch between. Everything lives in a single list, and navigating means moving around within that list rather than between documents.

This takes a little getting used to if you're coming from a traditional notes app, but it means you never have to think about where to file something or go hunting across different docs to find it.

# Zoom into a node

Click any bullet (not the arrow, the bullet itself) and you zoom in. That node fills your view, and everything outside it disappears. This is useful when you want to focus on a project or section without the distraction of everything else in your document.

When you are zoomed in, use the breadcrumbs at the top of the page to return to any parent. Select **Home** to return to the top of your Workflowy.

# Expand and collapse

A node with content underneath it has an arrow beside its bullet. Press the arrow to collapse that branch, hiding everything inside it. Press again to expand it. This is how you manage complexity: you don't delete or archive things to get them out of the way, you just fold them up.

Collapsing branches makes a large outline easier to read or move around, without deleting or archiving anything.

# Other ways to navigate around Workflowy

Workflowy has several different ways to get around, which all server different purposes:

- Use the [sidebar](/help/sidebar-navigation) when you know where something lives in your account.
- Use [search](/help/search-your-notes) when you remember words, tags, dates, or bits of your content.
- Use [Jump To](/help/jump-to) when you know a node’s name or have assigned it a shortcut.
- [Star a node or search](/help/starring) when you return to it regularly and want it find in the sidebar.
- Use [panes](/help/panes) when you need multiple parts of Workflowy visible side by side.
