Use Workflowy with AI

Workflowy has built-in tools that let you use AI with your notes, either in the Workflowy app itself or through other apps using an MCP connector.

AI tools built into Workflowy

• Chat with your notes: Ask questions, make connections, and rediscover ideas in your Workflowy notes.
• AI Nodes: Use AI directly inside your notes. Open an AI Node, enter a prompt such as "summarize this section" or "rewrite this as an email," and get the result in your Workflowy document.
• AI Actions: Quick and convenient predefined actions that run directly in your notes.

Connect Workflowy to other AI tools with Workflowy Desktop MCP

Workflowy Desktop MCP lets an external AI tool work directly with your Workflowy content. It is useful for searching your notes, summarizing project information, adding tasks from an AI chat, and reorganizing nodes.

Third-party tools

Third-party AI tools are unofficial tools built and maintained by independent developers. Note: Workflowy does not provide support for these tools.

When to use each tool

• Use Chat with your notes to ask questions or find connections across your existing notes.
• Use AI Nodes when you want to work with AI without leaving Workflowy.
• Use AI Actions for quick, repeatable edits that don't require a custom prompt.
• Use Workflowy Desktop MCP when you want an external AI app to search, update, or organize your Workflowy content.
• Use third-party tools when you need an unofficial local, command-line, or multi-account workflow.

Note: External AI tools may be able to edit, move, complete, or delete content. Review important changes, keep API keys and MCP Connection Links private, and only connect tools you trust.
